About The Position

This position collaborates with physicians to develop and implement a plan of care aimed at returning patients to optimal health. The Registered Nurse provides direct bedside nursing care, administers medical orders, and oversees the functions of nursing assistants and other support staff. Key responsibilities include evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan, integrating evidence-based practices, and ensuring effective delegation and coordination of nursing tasks. The role also involves facilitating patient conferences, addressing patient and family teaching needs for ongoing care and discharge, and actively participating in professional growth through educational opportunities. The nurse functions as a team leader, ensuring appropriate patient placement and assignment delegation. Effective communication, organizational skills, and the application of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) are crucial. Safe medication administration, response to emergencies, maintenance of a safe patient care environment, and competency in basic and specific skills are also essential. The role requires data collection and analysis related to patient care and unit activities, and the ability to provide age-specific care for newborns, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Participation in quality improvement and research activities is expected, along with performing other related duties. Specifically for the CCU/ICU unit, responsibilities include managing critical care with hemodynamic monitoring, administering high-risk medications, monitoring and managing patients with hemodynamic and respiratory instability (including mechanical ventilation), participating in unit quality measures, incorporating evidence-based practice, and promoting a compassionate and therapeutic environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Critical Care course within one year of hire/transfer
  • Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course

  • Six-month experience in acute care setting or equivalent

Responsibilities
