Weekender Registered Nurse (RN) Medical ICU
About The Position
The Registered Nurse works in the 20-bed Medical ICU at UH Cleveland Medical Center, providing care to critically ill patients using leading-edge technologies and evidence-based treatments. The unit offers a formal mentorship program spanning the first two years, specialized device training, a family atmosphere, work/life balance, a perk system, teamwork, high retention rates, and advancement and leadership opportunities. This Weekender position requires two 12-hour shifts between 7:00 PM Friday and 7:00 AM Monday. Weekender shifts are compensated at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate. Weekender employees qualify for full-time medical and dental benefits; eligibility for all other benefits is at part-time levels. University Hospitals nurses provide care to patients of all ages, combining compassion with advanced knowledge, technical skills, and professional integrity. The role requires thorough knowledge of nursing processes and practice, use of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed therapies, and a professional demeanor when responding to patients. The nurse must also perform other duties as assigned, comply with policies and standards, follow department instructions provided during orientation, and protect patients’ Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with required training, the UH Code of Conduct, and applicable policies and procedures.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of RN experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the nursing process and nursing practice.
- Ability to use a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies, such as stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, and electronic monitoring devices.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio and/or a Multi State Compact License upon hire.
- Current BLS Provider Certification issued by the American Heart Association; must be obtained during Nursing Orientation.
- Minimum of a diploma or associate degree in nursing from an accredited program.
