About The Position

The Preop Recovery Room A (PACU) Registered Nurse provides preoperative, immediate postoperative, and discharge nursing care. The nurse helps prepare patients for surgery, supports a safe recovery from anesthesia, and advocates for patient safety throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative recovery process. This is a full-time, day-shift position in Topeka, Kansas.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current nursing license in the State of Kansas.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and before providing direct patient care.
• Current ACLS certification.
• PALS certification is required for primary PACU RNs; PRN RNs are excluded.

Responsibilities

• Admit patients to the preoperative unit and assist with their physical preparation for surgery.
• Check patient charts for completeness, perform physician-ordered preoperative preparations, and explain the surgical routine to patients.
• Provide professional nursing care to patients in the immediate postoperative period in the PACU.
• Assess patients’ physical and psychological needs.
• Evaluate and implement appropriate measures to ensure safe recovery from anesthesia.
• Prepare patients for discharge and discharge them safely from the Center.
• Advocate for patients and ensure their safety during preoperative care, intraoperative care, and postoperative recovery from anesthesia.
