The Registered Nurse will provide labor and delivery care at a rural short-term acute care hospital. The nurse must be able to work independently, as only one Labor & Delivery nurse may be scheduled on a shift. When that occurs, the charge nurse will provide L&D backup or an on-call team member will be available for support. Staffing strives to follow AWHONN guidelines whenever possible, but the nurse may need to manage labor patients while also caring for OB triage and outpatient patients. Floating to Medical-Surgical or the Emergency Department is not required. The nurse is expected to assist with postpartum and nursery care when patient volumes and staffing needs warrant. Patient ratios are variable. The position does not require on-call work and does not require block scheduling. Weekend work is required: six weekend shifts per six-week schedule. Forty-eight-hour schedules are not approved.
