About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) provides specialized nursing care to patients who need closer monitoring and more complex care than in a traditional medical-surgical setting. The role involves caring for higher-acuity patients while working collaboratively with physicians and an interdisciplinary team. It offers the opportunity to develop clinical judgment and expertise in a supportive environment focused on communication, teamwork, and excellent patient care.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Current RN license or eligibility to practice in Wisconsin.
• Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, individualized nursing care to patients with complex and changing healthcare needs.
• Perform comprehensive assessments and continuously monitor patients for changes in condition.
• Recognize changes in patient status and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
• Safely administer medications, IV therapies, treatments, and other interventions according to established standards.
• Monitor patients requiring increased observation and specialized care.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, medications, and ongoing care.
• Respond appropriately to urgent and emergent patient situations.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans.
• Promote patient safety and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Support the orientation and development of new staff and nursing students as appropriate.
