The Registered Nurse (RN) uses the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized nursing care. This role is in a 16-bed Medical Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit at a Level 1 Trauma facility. The unit cares for critically ill patients with complex, life-threatening conditions, including sepsis, spinal cord injuries, respiratory failure requiring intubation, skeletal traction, and complex surgical needs. The multidisciplinary team provides advanced hemodynamic monitoring and interventions such as proning, CRRT, and titration of vasopressors. The unit emphasizes rapid response, evidence-based care, and critical thinking. The RN collaborates with interprofessional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The nurse practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and follows age- and population-specific standards for the assigned clinical setting. Care spans prevention, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move through the continuum of care. The RN also plans and coordinates care, assesses and educates patients, performs triage, and provides other nursing interventions in accordance with applicable nursing practice laws and professional standards.
