About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Florence H. Busby Critical Care Unit at Backus Hospital provides critical care to patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. The 12-bed unit works as a multidisciplinary team and includes Registered Nurses, Techs, Interventionists, and 24/7 Respiratory Therapy coverage. The RN demonstrates clinical competence through the nursing process and development of a synergistic nurse-patient relationship. The role involves assessing and identifying patient problems and needs, establishing a plan of care, implementing care, and evaluating the care provided. The position requires nursing knowledge, strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities and stressful situations, and a commitment to patient service and confidentiality. A sign-on bonus is offered to nurses with more than one year of CCU/ICU RN experience.

Requirements

Graduate of a school of nursing; a BSN is preferred.
One year of RN experience and/or successful completion of The William W. Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program.
Current unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
Ability to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
Ability to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications.
Basic knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey technical or complex information and provide instruction.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible, and work as part of a team.
Ability to work in a stressful environment.
Commitment to customer service.
Basic computer knowledge for entering and retrieving data.
