The Registered Nurse (RN) works in the Joseph 7C Complex Intervention Unit, a 10-bed secured medical/surgical unit providing care to adult patients with multiple comorbidities and increased risk of harming themselves or others, including patients who may exhibit verbal or physical aggression. Nurses on the unit are specially educated to teach and care for patients with complex medical/surgical and behavioral health needs. The unit emphasizes early intervention and holistic nursing care. Staff may have a future opportunity to join the Department of Nursing’s behavioral emergency response team. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The role includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of care for assigned patients in accordance with the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN provides leadership through precepting, formal or informal leadership, and quality improvement; delegates care according to skill and experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources; and may participate in committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive a personal vehicle as part of the role. New graduate nurses should apply through the Nurse Residency Program posting. The role is eligible for TN sponsorship; successful sponsorship requires state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
