Provides clinical direction for patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient- and family-centered care. Uses evidence-based practices throughout the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes—and incorporates safety, cost containment, quality improvement, and patient, unit, and organizational priorities into care. Follows organizational policies and compliance requirements, applicable regulatory requirements, and the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. The acute inpatient setting may require scheduling for weekends, holidays, and on-call work. The Registered Nurse assesses patients, identifies and documents care priorities, develops and updates individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, providers, and the interdisciplinary team, and provides direct care within the RN scope of practice. The role includes coordinating and delegating care, monitoring patient safety and quality, evaluating responses to interventions, communicating changes and outcomes, supporting discharge transitions, and identifying and providing patient and family education. Nurses maintain professional competency, licensure, and required education, and serve as patient advocates and care coordinators.
