The registered nurse (RN) coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and throughout the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs, following the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The role includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of care for assigned patients. The RN provides leadership through precepting, informal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources. Strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are important; participation on committees or projects may be part of the role. Some employees may need to drive a personal vehicle as part of their responsibilities. The position requires living within reasonable driving distance of campus to meet a 45-minute on-call requirement. The RN must be able to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts. The role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Applicants with F-1 status and post-completion OPT may apply, but the role is not eligible for the F-1 STEM OPT extension. Successful sponsorship requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
