The Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and throughout the continuum of care, meeting the needs of patients and families. Within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of care for assigned patients. The RN provides leadership through precepting, formal and informal leadership, and quality-improvement efforts. The RN delegates care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The role also calls for excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills, and may involve committee or project participation. Some employees may be required to drive a personal vehicle as part of their responsibilities. The position requires living within reasonable driving distance of campus to meet a 45-minute on-call requirement. It may require flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call work. TN sponsorship is available; eligible F-1 post-completion OPT applicants may apply, but the role is not eligible for the F-1 STEM OPT extension. Successful sponsorship requires state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
