About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in the Emergency Department at Via Christi, St Peter in Wichita, Kansas. This full-time, night-shift role includes rotating weekends and holidays. The nurse provides individualized patient care, coordinates multidisciplinary treatment, carries out physician and advanced nursing orders, and educates patients and families about diagnoses, medications, and follow-up care. Associates are eligible for tuition discounts and priority placement in select healthcare programs through Ascension’s academic partnership with Wichita State University.

Requirements

• Hold a Registered Nurse credential from the Kansas Board of Nursing before the hire date or job transfer date.
• Have a nursing diploma from an accredited school or college, or the required professional licensure at the time of hire.
• Have at least 1 year of RN experience in an emergency department.
• Obtain Advanced Life Support certification within 6 months of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Obtain BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 6 months of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Nice To Haves

• At least 1 year of RN experience in an ICU.

Responsibilities

• Champion individualized patient care plans by tracking progress, charting milestones, and communicating vital updates to care providers and patients.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care teams to deliver seamless, holistic treatment throughout each patient's stay.
• Execute physician and advanced nursing orders to ensure timely interventions and optimal clinical outcomes.
• Prepare patients and families for admission or discharge by providing clear, compassionate education about emergent diagnoses, home medications, and necessary follow-up care.
