The RN Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in accordance with the organization’s established patient care standards, including standards for patient assessment and transfer. Depending on hiring tier and competency, the role requires flexibility to float among departments and sites across the organization’s markets. Assignments may include same-day staffing needs, multiple locations during one shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns. The nurse participates as a member of the health care team under the direction of a clinical manager or designee and within the applicable standards and scope of practice for a Registered Nurse. Float expectations vary by tier: Tier 1 floats within a single site; Tier 2 floats across multiple sites within one market; and Tier 3 floats across multiple sites in more than one market. The nurse supports organizational and departmental goals, participates in continuous quality improvement, advocates for patient safety, and incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery. The role involves planning and coordinating nursing care and clinical decisions using available evidence, and formulating and implementing individualized plans of care that include interventions, evaluation of responses, and appropriate documentation based on the patient’s condition and age.
