About The Position
The Staff Nurse Inpatient is a clinically competent registered professional nurse who prescribes, delegates, and coordinates care for acutely ill patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse interacts effectively with patients, their significant others, and other health team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values and complies with its Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, applicable policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others.
- Strong analytic abilities.
- An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is acceptable with a commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of the first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in the specific clinical area.
- Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) certification.
- Emergency Communications Registered Nurse certification.
- Certified Pediatric Nurse certification.
- Certified Emergency Nurse certification.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
- Direct care and determine the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in providing direct patient care.
- Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff; create a documented, outcome-focused plan of care that reflects communication with patients, families, and others.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
- Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
- Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
