The competent Nurse practices independently in the same or a similar clinical setting and demonstrates awareness of relevant aspects of a situation. The role provides routine and complex care, works toward long-range goals or plans, and continues to develop the ability to manage clinical contingencies. The Nurse makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation. Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the Nurse uses the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation—to provide care to assigned patients. The role addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with the Nurse’s level of practice. The Nurse administers medications and treatments according to appropriate protocols, monitors for side effects and effectiveness, documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care, and assesses learning needs while providing education and identifying issues and resources. Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days. New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member, and onboarding requirements are validated through organizational entry competency and Critical Care Department-specific competency validations. Annual competency verification requirements must be completed. The schedule is three 12-hour days; this is a full-time position.
