The Registered Nurse works on a 19-bed acute care and telemetry unit serving neurology and cardiology patients, including people recovering from stroke, experiencing transient ischemic attacks, or receiving cardiology care. The nurse provides specialized care, monitors patient vital signs, administers medications, and communicates with physicians and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team. The role centers on professional nursing practice that treats each patient as a whole person and fosters healing and wellness. Nursing care is grounded in evidence and current research, hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making uses all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. The Registered Nurse demonstrates compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy while supporting collaboration across disciplines. The clinical nurse spends more than 50% of their time coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care on the unit. Activities include nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges; providing patient- and family-centered education; and coordinating care and individualized treatment planning as applicable.
