About The Position

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing maxillofacial surgery. This role involves managing preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative duties, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to all regulatory standards. The nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, educate patients and families, and maintain meticulous documentation. Flexibility and strong clinical judgment are essential for this position.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in a surgical or perioperative nursing role.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or must obtain within one month of hire).
  • Proficient in IV insertion, medication administration, wound care, and anesthesia support.
  • Experience in using medical equipment such as monitors, pumps, and ventilators.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to provide clear instructions to patients and families.
  • Ability to assess and address patient needs, manage patient care effectively, and provide emotional support.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to accurately document patient information.
  • Ability to follow complex medical procedures in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to assess patient conditions, identify complications, and respond swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a busy operating room environment.
  • Collaborates effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and surgical situations while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in anesthesia or critical care settings.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
  • Certifications in Perioperative Nursing (such as CNOR).

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, escort them to exam/procedure rooms, and ensure all preoperative documentation is complete.
  • Take and record vital signs, weight, chief complaint, and other relevant patient information.
  • Accurately transcribe results into the patient’s medical chart.
  • Initiate IV access for medication administration, hydration, and other therapeutic interventions.
  • Prepare and assist with the administration of anesthetic medications under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records of medication administration.
  • Ensure the surgery chart is complete and accurate, reviewing orders, allergies, and lab results.
  • Assist the surgical team by maintaining a sterile environment and supporting the team.
  • Monitor the patient during surgery, assist with anesthetic drug administration, and maintain anesthetic records.
  • Monitor patient vitals during surgery and document anesthetic and surgical information in real-time.
  • Provide postoperative care during patient recovery.
  • Assess and monitor patients’ vitals as they emerge from sedation and address complications promptly.
  • Assess patient readiness for discharge based on established criteria.
  • Approve patient discharge under the guidance of a licensed professional.
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative care instructions.
  • Monitor and replenish medical supplies and medications in surgical and recovery areas.
  • Dispose of expired medications and supplies in accordance with safety standards.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact between the patient and the surgeon.
  • Ensure seamless communication and coordination of care before, during, and after surgery.
  • Ensure patients receive appropriate care throughout their surgical experience.
  • Address patient concerns and coordinate with the healthcare team.
  • Be flexible and available to travel between different practice locations as needed.
  • Assist in other areas of the surgical department as required.
  • Adhere to all safety, regulatory, and quality standards, including OSHA, HIPAA, and hospital protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all relevant laws and policies.
  • Follow infection control protocols, perform regular safety checks, and ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards.
