About The Position
The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols. The role is based in the 8-bed Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham, which cares for patients recovering from cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries and heart catheterization procedures. The unit uses telemetry monitoring and advanced postoperative management and serves as a transition between the CVICU and other acute care units. The position offers day and night schedules, with full-time and part-time options.
Requirements
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing and professional licensure at time of hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans; monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Coordinate care as the primary coordinator across disciplines.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
