About The Position

Utilizing the nursing process, this role is responsible for providing for immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies. This position is on the Older Adult Unit (SB1) and provides care for adults ages 50 and older who are struggling with depression, anxiety, neurocognitive disorders, and related symptoms and conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred
  • One year medical/psychiatric experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assesses patients’ needs, utilizing multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status, and identifying patient strengths using a Recovery Oriented Framework.
  • Performs point of care testing and communicates findings effectively to the healthcare team.
  • Documents patient response to intervention and understanding of patients’ response to treatment interventions.
  • Identifies patient behaviors that contribute to crisis development and utilizes de-escalation techniques.
  • Accurately plans nursing interventions, modifying and individualizing the Nursing Plan of Care and protocols, and participating in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care needs and partners with patients/families to support recovery goals.
  • Provides and implements nursing care interventions, establishing a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates safe, accurate, and timely medication administration using BMV scanning.
  • Reviews physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals.
  • Participates in leading patient groups.
  • Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions, documenting response to intervention and understanding of patients’ response to treatment interventions.
  • Accurately communicates patients’ clinical status at clinical team rounds and change of shift reports.
  • Utilizes evidence-based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions.
  • Provides a leadership role in organizing and providing patient care, including direction and supervision of MHSs and delegating care interventions.
  • Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies and promotes/provides for critical incident de-briefing.
  • Anticipates acute milieu problems and delegates staff appropriately.
  • Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others, including health teaching related to patient needs and recovery goals, documenting teaching, and informing the treatment team of learning needs.
  • Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency, completing mandatory in-service requirements, maintaining competency for the patient population, seeking feedback, and identifying areas for development.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication, maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, communicating positively and courteously, and presenting professionally.
  • Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit through effective time management and economical management of services and supplies.
  • Notifies shift coordinator/charge nurse of availability for additional assignments.
