About The Position
The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (1South) at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham, following established organizational policies, procedures, and protocols. The 18-bed unit emphasizes team cohesiveness, accessible patient care supervisors, and a supportive teaching environment in which new graduates are welcome. The role is scheduled for weekends only, with shifts listed as either 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Requirements
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- Professional nursing licensure required at the time of hire.
- Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained before the hire date or job transfer date.
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
- Advanced Life Support certification obtained within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patients' discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
