About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), following the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols. The role includes implementing and monitoring patient care plans, documenting and communicating patient conditions, coordinating care across disciplines, carrying out physician and nursing orders, and coordinating discharge planning with the healthcare team.

The 1South Medical ICU has 18 beds and emphasizes team cohesion, accessible leadership, and collaborative teaching. New graduates are welcomed. This position is weekend-only, with either night hours from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. or day hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham.

Requirements

• Alabama Registered Nurse licensure from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before the hire or job transfer date.
• Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing, with required professional licensure at the time of hire.
• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Advanced Life Support certification obtained within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Coordinate care as the primary coordinator among disciplines.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
