About The Position

UPMC St. Margaret Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for its Peri-Anesthesia Services team. The role provides care throughout patients’ surgical and procedural experiences, including preparing patients for procedures, monitoring and caring for patients recovering from anesthesia and sedation, managing pain and postoperative symptoms, educating patients and families, and supporting a safe transition to discharge or the next level of care. The nurse works with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and an interdisciplinary team to develop specialized procedural nursing skills and strengthen assessment and critical-thinking abilities. The schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts with variable daylight start times, plus scheduled on-call shifts for emergency procedures. Typical on-call scheduling includes one weekend shift every five to six weeks, one to two weekday shifts, and one to two holidays per year; coverage is based on staffing needs. The position reflects the qualifications and salary of a Senior Professional Staff Nurse, a step in UPMC’s Nursing Career Ladder. The final title and salary are based on education and experience. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and care-delivery team member accountable for nursing care and its standards and quality. The role manages and provides care for a group of patients and their families, using independent judgment and collaborating with the care team. It also encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision, and includes maintaining relationships with healthcare providers, patients, and families to support desired outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
