About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) works primarily in direct patient care and demonstrates competent clinical practice in the Emergency Department. The position involves performing simple and complex nursing procedures, assisting physicians with procedures, and providing physical and psychological comfort to patients, families, and visitors. The RN provides discharge and follow-up instructions and answers ambulance radios, independently giving appropriate orders for prehospital care. The role uses sophisticated equipment and serves varied patients in a frequently stressful environment. The RN assesses and reassesses patient health status, identifies changes in condition, individualizes and coordinates plans of care, implements nursing interventions, and evaluates treatment effectiveness. The RN processes provider orders, communicates with patients, families, and health care workers, documents interventions and responses, supports patient and family education, and maintains a safe environment. The position requires collaboration with the care team, appropriate prioritization of Emergency Department care by acuity, and adherence to medical center policies, procedures, and attendance expectations. The employee participates in continuing education, computer-based learning, ED in-service training, and ED Skills Day. MyMichigan Health employees must demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows and may be required to participate in additional learning opportunities. The work may involve stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief, and death; potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials; and use of personal protective equipment. The role requires mobility around the facility, vision and hearing, dexterity, and the ability to sit, stand, walk, and change posture for extended or frequent periods. Physical demand is classified as medium, including lifting or carrying 21–50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and handling 10 pounds constantly.
