About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides post-operative care to patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role coordinates care with surgeons and anesthesiologists, guides other personnel, communicates changes in patient condition to physicians, and collaborates with departments and coworkers to support quality care, patient flow, and unit organization. The nurse also adheres to applicable regulations, standards, and hospital or unit policies; participates in performance improvement activities, unit meetings, and in-services; and serves as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.

The PACU RN is accountable directly to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor. The position is full-time on the day shift.

Requirements

• Current and valid state RN license.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• ACLS (AHA) certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
• Previous Critical Care or PACU experience, or a minimum of one year of on-the-job training.

Nice To Haves

• Critical Care RN (CCRN) certification.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in the PACU through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Coordinate post-operative patient care with the surgeon and anesthesiologist.
• Direct and guide other personnel while maintaining PACU standards of care.
• Communicate changes in patients’ clinical conditions to physicians, including hemodynamic monitoring, diagnostic study results, abnormal results, and symptomatology.
• Collaborate with other departments and coworkers to provide quality care across the continuum, efficient patient flow, and unit maintenance and organization.
• Adhere to regulations, standards, and hospital or unit policies and procedures.
• Participate in performance improvement activities, unit meetings, and in-services.
• Act as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.
