About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the PACU delivers nursing care within the assigned unit’s scope of practice, following hospital policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, and standards of care and practice. The Perianesthesia Nursing Department provides specialized care across the perioperative continuum, from preoperative preparation through post-anesthesia stabilization, recovery, and discharge or transfer. Care includes comprehensive assessment, continuous monitoring, individualized interventions, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support safe, efficient, high-quality care for patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.

This position works the day shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with 80 scheduled hours biweekly.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification as a Healthcare Provider.
• Experience in a specialty area may be considered; experience specific to the unit or position may be required to maintain the unit’s competency level as required by a regulatory agency.
• For RNs in the listed departments, the specified certifications are required within the stated timeframes: ACLS within six months for Critical Care, Emergency, Endoscopy, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Intensive Care Unit, Step-Down, and Telemetry Floats; NRP within six months for Labor and Delivery; PALS within six months for Pediatrics; and PALS and TNCC within one year for the Emergency Department.

Nice To Haves

• One year of professional nursing experience.
• ACLS certification is preferred in other units.

Responsibilities

• Assess each assigned patient, document and evaluate the patient’s response to the plan of care, and take appropriate corrective action.
• Plan and implement the patient’s plan of care or standard of care and provide patient teaching using that plan.
• Oversee ancillary personnel performing technical tasks.
