About The Position

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols. The role applies advanced skills and knowledge in nursing, works under general supervision, and requires critical thinking and decisive judgment in a stressful environment. The nurse performs duties consistent with the Nurse Practice Act and supports Owensboro Health’s mission, vision, core commitments, business interests, policies, and a culture of compliance, safety, and high reliability.

Requirements

• Associate degree or higher, or Diploma in Nursing, required upon hire.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing required within five years of employment in this position.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse and eligible to practice nursing in Kentucky upon hire.
• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required within 45 days of employment.
• Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
• Ability to work under general supervision in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Advanced skills and knowledge in the area of specialization.

Responsibilities

• Performs functions related to problem definition, data collection, interpretation, and analysis.
• Implements and monitors patient care plans.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
• Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
• Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
• Assesses and coordinates patient discharge planning needs with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.
• Performs job duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
• Adheres to organizational policies and procedures and behaves consistently with a culture of compliance, safety, and high reliability.
