About The Position

Bronson Methodist Hospital is hiring Registered Nurses for its Operating Room team. Nurses care for patients with complex and critical surgical needs in the area’s only Level I Trauma Center, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Experienced OR nurses are encouraged to apply, and licensed RNs with at least two years of clinical nursing experience may be considered for the Surgical Nurse Internship Program. The program includes an extended orientation with classroom instruction, structured learning, hands-on foundational and advanced surgical skills training, clinical experience alongside surgical teams, and development of critical-thinking and specialized nursing competencies aligned with current standards and best practices. The RN manages patient care throughout the length of stay to support quality outcomes and timely discharge. This includes using the nursing process; coordinating care delivered by other professionals; delegating appropriate tasks; providing physical care within the scope of nursing practice; and documenting and communicating patient responses, resource use, and anticipated needs. The nurse assesses patients, develops and implements individualized plans of care, administers treatments and medications, provides education, evaluates outcomes, and collaborates with patients, families, and the healthcare team. The role also includes professional development, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, patient advocacy, and supporting a healthy work environment. Scrub RN duties include preparing supplies and equipment for procedures, anticipating physician and surgical-team needs, monitoring changes in the patient and operative field, maintaining and updating case information, promoting proper equipment use, supporting circulators with specialty equipment and implants, and performing scrub duties across multiple services. The role includes rotational after-hours call. The internship schedule starts with eight weeks of standard eight-hour daytime shifts, then transitions to second-shift schedules with weekend responsibilities; interns also complete one week on third shift. As training progresses, interns participate in buddy call and then a first/second-call rotation. Call is typically one week out of every four, with approximately one to six weekends worked throughout the program.
