About The Position

This role is for nurses with over 12 months of experience, providing and coordinating independent patient care within a clinical specialty as part of a multidisciplinary team. The nurse will provide independent care to a unit-specific patient population, serve as a clinical resource, integrate evidence into practice, and function effectively in unit-specific roles. They are accountable to patients, families, peers, and the nurse manager for the processes and outcomes of care. The role involves serving as a primary coordinating nurse, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care, and addressing patient/family needs.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
  • Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
  • One year nursing experience.
  • Solid knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
  • Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.
  • Comfortable working independently and within a small, close-knit team
  • Collaborative and able to communicate effectively with providers
  • Adaptable and open to supporting evolving clinical initiatives
  • Professional, personable, and patient-focused

Responsibilities

  • Provides independent care to unit specific patient population
  • Serves as clinical resource for others
  • Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice
  • Functions effectively in roles specific to unit (such as arrest team for ICU, triage for ED, etc.)
  • Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care
  • Accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit
  • Accountable to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance
  • Serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs
  • Perform PICC line and midline insertions
  • Conduct ultrasound-guided peripheral IV placements
  • Utilize 3CG technology for line confirmation
  • Assess patients for appropriate vascular access based on clinical guidelines
  • Review labs, vascular studies, and patient history to determine candidacy
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care
  • Follow Infusion Nurses Society (INS) standards for vascular access
  • Provide patient education and maintain strong bedside communication
  • Participate in departmental initiatives and cross-functional support (e.g., ED collaboration, procedural trials)
