About The Position

The Registered Nurse delivers patient care using the nursing process: collecting data and assessing patients, prioritizing problems and needs, and evaluating the process and outcomes of nursing care. The role coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching, and coordinates care delivered by health team members.

Working with the interdisciplinary care team, the Registered Nurse conducts initial and ongoing assessments, analyzes assessment data, develops and implements plans of care, and evaluates treatment effectiveness. The nurse administers medications safely in accordance with the state of practice and organizational policies, coordinates patients’ care across hospital departments, advocates for patient safety through ongoing quality improvement, and incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery.

Requirements

• Valid nursing license from the state of practice.
• Associate of Nursing degree or Diploma in Nursing.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and future innovations.
• Nursing judgment and skill based on biological, physical, behavioral, and social sciences.
• Ability to apply the nursing process in patient care delivery and coordinate care.
• Ability to evaluate professional nursing practice to optimize goals and outcomes.
• Health teaching and health promotion skills.
• Patient advocacy and partnership skills.
• Interprofessional collaboration and leadership skills.
• Understanding and use of office and clinical technologies.

Responsibilities
