About The Position

Haywood Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its 17-bed Emergency Department, which has a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and an average daily volume of approximately 74 patients. The department’s collaborative team includes RNs, CNAs, paramedics, secretaries, and providers. Nurses care for patients with a wide variety of needs, including abdominal pain and shortness of breath, and contribute to care in a chest pain-accredited department. This PRN role is scheduled as needed for 12-hour shifts, with day, night, and mid-shift options. The schedule may include weekends and holidays, and requires six shifts per six-week period. The RN provides patient assessment, nursing interventions, age- and condition-appropriate care, clinical documentation, care-plan coordination, and quality-improvement assessments. Haywood Regional Medical Center is part of Lifepoint Health. The hospital is a 156-bed acute care facility serving Western North Carolina and is recognized for several quality and specialty-care accreditations.

Requirements

Active North Carolina or compact-state RN license. Applicants relocating must update licensure to the new Primary State of Residence before employment begins.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
American Heart Association ACLS and PALS certifications required within six months of hire.
Critical-thinking skills and decisive judgment.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

Accurately assess patients and identify their needs.
Identify and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
Provide care appropriate to each patient’s condition and age.
Complete timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record.
Complete and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient.
Perform timely and accurate quality-improvement assessments.
