The RN Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care according to the organization’s established patient care standards, including standards for patient assessment and transfer. The role’s primary function, based on hiring tier, is to remain available and flexible to float to departments and sites throughout the organization’s markets to provide patient care. Assignments may include day-of staffing, multiple assignment locations during one shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns. The RN works as a member of the healthcare team in cooperation with and under the direction of a clinical manager or designee, as defined by applicable standards and scope of practice. Float expectations depend on tier and competency: Tier 1 floats within a single site; Tier 2 floats among multiple sites within one market; and Tier 3 floats among multiple sites across more than one market. The RN supports organizational and departmental goals, patient safety, continuous quality improvement, and evidence-based professional nursing practice. The role is based in the Nurse Float Pool at West Hospital. It is scheduled for 36 hours per week on days/evenings. An associate degree in nursing, a current nursing license in the designated state, BLS, and at least one year of acute-care RN experience are required. A BSN and EPIC electronic health record training are preferred. ACLS and PALS are required based on specialty assignment.
