Registered Nurse (RN) 13 week Temporary Assignment-MICU
About The Position
This is a 13-week temporary assignment for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) located in Newport News, Virginia. The RN works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Director, responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of total nursing care for assigned patients. The role involves working in various settings within the Critical Care Complex and Riverside Health System. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop care plans considering physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. They are also responsible for supervising and delegating tasks to non-professional personnel to ensure optimal patient care. Competence in managing age-related needs of patients in Critical Care/Telemetry units is essential. The RN works under leadership and a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive clinical care in accordance with Riverside Health System's standards and goals.
Requirements
- Program Graduate, Nursing (Nursing Diploma is minimum education requirement, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma) (Required)
- High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate (Required)
- 2 years RN experience for Temp roles (Required)
- Current knowledge of clinical practices and related information systems and computer applications, required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed compact state Upon Hire(Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)
- ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (RRMC Preferred) within 90 Days(Required)

Responsibilities
- Assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs applying standards of practice relevant to the specialty or patient population served in Critical Care units/departments.
- Partner with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care, treatments, and procedures, incorporating evidence-based standards of practice.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
- Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of the plan of care.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care.
- Focus on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer needs, including current evidence-based practice and quality measures.
- Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations and modify education methods for patient/family comprehension.
- Individualize and coordinate patient education, including discharge-specific education with family/caregivers, and evaluate for patient comprehension.
- Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met.
- Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
- Evaluate own needs for support and utilize identified systems to meet those needs.
