About The Position

This role focuses on providing specialized care to patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Key responsibilities include patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, symptom management, team collaboration, emergency response, and patient/family education for discharge.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
  • Valid and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the state of Virginia.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain within a set timeframe).

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN is highly preferred.
  • Prior clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  • Previous background in PACU, Critical Care/ICU, or the Operating Room (OR) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive post-anesthesia evaluations, heavily focusing on airway management, hemodynamic stability, and pain control.
  • Continuously measure, assess, and record patients' levels of consciousness and vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels).
  • Administer prescribed medications to treat post-operative side effects, such as pain, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Work seamlessly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary staff to prioritize patient acuity, unit flow, and specialized interventions.
  • Provide airway management, administer emergency fluids or drugs, and utilize advanced cardiac life support techniques when necessary.
  • Provide emotional support, comfort measures, and clear post-operative discharge instructions to patients and their families.
