About The Position

This role is for an experienced Operating Room (OR) nurse at UVA Health's Outpatient Surgery Center, focusing on delivering exceptional surgical care across multiple specialties. The center performs approximately 50-60 cases daily in a 12-operating-room facility, offering exposure to a diverse surgical population and a patient-centered outpatient setting. The position involves functioning in both scrub and circulating nurse roles, delivering safe and high-quality patient care, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and supporting a high-volume ambulatory surgery program. Cross-training opportunities are available to expand clinical expertise and versatility, contributing to a culture of teamwork, efficiency, patient safety, and clinical excellence. The schedule is four 10-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM) with no nights, call, weekends, or holidays, promoting work-life balance. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, enjoys variety, embraces collaboration, and is eager to grow professionally across multiple surgical specialties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
  • Standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs.
  • May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
  • Previous Operating Room nursing experience
  • Experience in multiple surgical specialties
  • Scrub and circulate experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Function in both scrub and circulating nurse roles across perioperative services.
  • Deliver safe, high-quality patient care throughout the surgical experience.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Support a high-volume ambulatory surgery program across multiple specialty service lines.
