About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position within UVA Health’s Non-OR Anesthesia Nursing Team, based at University Hospital. The role focuses on peri-anesthesia nursing for patients undergoing procedures outside the operating room, primarily in Radiology and Brachytherapy at the Cancer Center. The position involves pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure collaboration, and post-anesthesia recovery. The team cares for both pediatric (approximately 75% of the patient population) and adult patients. This role offers a predictable weekday schedule, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with no weekends, holidays, or call requirements. It is ideal for an experienced RN seeking complex clinical practice with a strong work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
  • 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
  • Strong assessment skills.
  • Confidence in procedural or recovery environments.
  • Ability to adapt communication and care to patients across the lifespan.

Responsibilities

  • Completing pre-anesthesia assessments, including patient history, medications, allergies, vital signs, and readiness for the planned procedure.
  • Preparing patients for anesthesia and administering pre-anesthetic medications when indicated.
  • Educating patients and families about anesthesia, procedural expectations, recovery, discharge, and aftercare.
  • Collaborating with anesthesiologists, radiologists, and procedural teams to support patient safety and comfort during anesthesia-supported care.
  • Monitoring patients through post-anesthesia recovery and identifying changes that require timely intervention.
  • Managing pain, symptoms, and potential post-procedure complications.
  • Confirming that patients and families understand discharge instructions and are prepared for a safe transition from care.
