About The Position

This position involves delivering specialized care for patients undergoing orthopedic surgeries, including spine procedures, hip surgeries, acute traumatic injuries, orthopedic oncology cases, and hardware removal. The Registered Nurse (RN) will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to provide high-acuity, resource-intensive care tailored to complex orthopedic needs. The role also supports medical and surgical patients from additional service lines, particularly Neurosurgery, based on unit demand and patient needs. Responsibilities include managing diverse admission pathways, such as patients from the emergency department, outside-hospital direct admissions, PACU, and transfers from other inpatient units. The work schedule is 90% FTE, evening/night shift, with three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am, including every third weekend rotation and holiday rotation. Hours are based on the operational needs of the department. This role is located at University Hospital in Madison, WI.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
  • Inpatient Units and Central Float (Adult & Pediatric), Venous Access Team (VAT), Radiology, Hemodialysis, Cardiovascular Laboratory: Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
  • Relevant RN Experience Preferred
  • Relevant Certification Preferred
