About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Respiratory Care Unit (General Care) located at Alfred 7E (AL7E). This unit provides transitional care for adult and geriatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation (invasive through a tracheostomy or non-invasive ventilation) or complex respiratory care needs with complex respiratory monitoring. The nursing team collaborates with a multidisciplinary team including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, social work, and nutrition. Providers include Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellows, Critical Care Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants, and Critical Care Physicians. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice and functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, adhering to the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating nursing care. The RN provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. Delegation of patient care is based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential. The RN may participate in committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • One year of RN experience required.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020, and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
  • 1 year RN experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities
