About The Position

About the Lutheran Critical Care Float Pool RN Role As a Critical Care Float Pool RN at Lutheran Hospital, you'll play a key role in ensuring safe staffing and high-quality patient care across critical care environments. Nurses in this position float to areas of greatest need and provide specialized clinical support in intensive and progressive care settings based on their competencies and experience. This role is designed for adaptable, confident nurses who can seamlessly transition between units while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care. Float Pool RNs may support areas such as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Step-Down Units, and other specialty critical care departments as needed. Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of the start of employment.
  • Minimum one (1) year of RN experience in a critical care or acute care setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • BSN is Required. Degree will be verified.
  • RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Department, Trauma, Critical Care, or other acute care nursing experience.
  • Experience caring for diverse patient populations in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill and high-acuity patients across multiple units.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, utilizing critical thinking and advanced clinical judgment.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Manage complex patient needs, including advanced monitoring, specialized therapies, and critical care interventions.
  • Document patient care accurately and ensure continuity of care across clinical settings.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery expectations, and discharge needs when appropriate.
  • Adapt quickly to varying unit workflows, patient populations, and acuity levels.
  • Support a culture of teamwork, mentorship, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
