About The Position

This role focuses on the critical care of patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for assessing, monitoring, and managing patients immediately following surgical procedures. This includes ensuring airway patency, managing pain and nausea, collaborating with the surgical and anesthesia teams, and educating patients and families on post-operative recovery and home care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
• Active, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia.
• BLS required within 90 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS must be obtained prior to completion of orientation.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of RN experience required.
• Prior critical care or PACU hospital experience.

Nice To Haves

• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, observe, and continuously monitor post-anesthesia patients, closely tracking vital signs and levels of consciousness.
• Ensure patient airway patency and assess for any immediate post-operative complications.
• Administer prescribed medications and execute comfort measures for effective pain management and nausea control.
• Partner closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the broader healthcare team to coordinate seamless patient care.
• Educate patients and their families regarding post-surgery recovery and at-home care instructions.
