About The Position

This role focuses on the critical care of patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for monitoring patients immediately following anesthesia, managing their immediate post-operative needs, and ensuring a smooth recovery process. This includes close observation of vital signs, airway management, pain and nausea control, and collaborating with the surgical and anesthesia teams. The RN will also play a key role in educating patients and their families about post-surgery recovery and home care instructions.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
• Active, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia.
• BLS required within 90 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS must be obtained prior to completion of orientation.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of RN experience required.
• Prior critical care or PACU hospital experience.

Nice To Haves

• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, observe, and continuously monitor post-anesthesia patients, closely tracking vital signs and levels of consciousness.
• Ensure patient airway patency and assess for any immediate post-operative complications.
• Administer prescribed medications and execute comfort measures for effective pain management and nausea control.
• Partner closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the broader healthcare team to coordinate seamless patient care.
• Educate patients and their families regarding post-surgery recovery and at-home care instructions.
