Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR) with Cardiovascular/Open Heart expertise in a hospital OR setting. This assignment takes place in a large academic teaching hospital environment that requires high levels of perioperative skill and teamwork. The role involves providing perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular/open heart cases, including circulating and, as assigned, scrub duties. The nurse will maintain sterile technique, manage instrument tables and supplies, and assist the surgical team with case preparation and completion. Collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other OR staff is essential, requiring anticipation of needs, monitoring patient status, and managing intraoperative equipment and medications per policy. When floated to other OR suites, the nurse will circulate (not scrub) and support various specialties such as General, Orthopedic, Neuro, or ENT as needed. Documentation in Epic within the past two years is required, along with accurate perioperative records. The position also involves assisting with patient transport and recovery planning as appropriate. Schedule and call requirements include three 12-hour shifts (0645–1915), one to two weekday on-call periods (1900–0715), and one full weekend of call every five weeks. Flexibility is needed to meet patient care needs and unit coverage.
