About The Position

This is a Registered Nurse position in the MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit) at 11 James MICU. The role involves caring for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses including Oncologic Emergencies, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), pneumonia, Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Gastrointestinal bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, consequences of oncologic treatment, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders and sepsis. Common treatments include mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials and plasmapheresis. Many patients have underlying pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions requiring bronchoscopy or endoscopy. The position requires 2 years of experience. If accepting a 12D/N rotating contract, the nurse may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period. Changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities.

Requirements

• 2 years of experience
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification
• NIH certification
• Experience with Vents
• Experience with IV Starts
• Experience with COMPUTERIZED CHARTING
• EPIC REQUIRED

Responsibilities

• Provide care for adult and geriatric patients in the MICU.
• Manage patients with diagnoses such as Oncologic Emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, Gastrointestinal bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, consequences of oncologic treatment, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders and sepsis.
• Administer treatments including mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials and plasmapheresis.
• Assist with procedures like bronchoscopy or endoscopy for patients with pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions.
• Adapt to potential day/night shift rotations based on department needs.
