About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at 11 James MICU. The role involves caring for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of complex diagnoses including Oncologic Emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, Gastrointestinal bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, consequences of oncologic treatment, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis. Special procedures and unit details include managing hemodynamically compromised patients requiring mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis. Many patients also have underlying pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions requiring bronchoscopy or endoscopy. The contract is for a 12D/N rotating shift, meaning nurses may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination, based on department needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and depend on staffing priorities. First-time travelers are not accepted for this position.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience required.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • NIH certification required.
  • Experience with Vents required.
  • Experience with IV Starts required.
  • Experience with COMPUTERIZED CHARTING required.
  • Experience with EPIC required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for adult and geriatric patients in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
  • Manage patients with complex diagnoses including Oncologic Emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, Gastrointestinal bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, consequences of oncologic treatment, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis.
  • Administer treatments for hemodynamically compromised patients, including mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, and chemotherapy administration.
  • Manage complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis.
  • Assist with bronchoscopy or endoscopy procedures for patients with pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Adapt to rotating day/night shifts based on department needs.
  • Utilize computerized charting systems.
