This newly remodeled, 25 private bed unit, is committed to delivering the best, high quality, compassionate care. On the Medical Stroke Unit, we use a multidisciplinary team approach consisting of nurses, physicians, patient care assistants, case managers, and secretarial support staff. Our care team specializes in the care of acutely ill medical/surgical patients, with a primary focus on patients effected by strokes. We pride ourselves on our strong partnership and high-quality care we deliver to our patients. Nursing skills gained on this unit: * End of life care * Patient and family advocacy * Critical thinking skills * Foundational nursing skills Unit Successes/Designations: * Primary Stroke Center * Multiple Daisy Nominations * NIHSS Certified * 1 of 4 hospitals participating in a national research study Unit Culture: * Mentorship program * Professional development * Teamwork focused on delivering quality care * 6 weeks of new graduate orientation

Requirements

  • Associates of Nursing (ASN) required.
  • Graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the best, high quality, compassionate care on the Medical Stroke Unit.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, physicians, patient care assistants, case managers, and secretarial support staff.
  • Specialize in the care of acutely ill medical/surgical patients, with a primary focus on patients affected by strokes.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills and foundational nursing skills.
  • Provide patient and family advocacy.
  • Engage in end-of-life care.
