About The Position

Scotland Health Care System is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Labor and Delivery team at Scotland Memorial Hospital. This full-time position involves providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients throughout their labor and delivery journey. The role requires staying current with best practices in nursing, supervising other personnel, and ensuring patient safety and well-being. The nurse will be responsible for patient assessment, preparation, procedure assistance, documentation, and post-procedure follow-up, with a strong emphasis on age-specific competency across various life spans.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients.
  • Age categories to be included: Adolescence 13 - 17 yrs; Young Adult/Adult 18 – 64 yrs; Adult/Middle-Aged 65 - 79 yrs; Geriatric 80+ yrs

Responsibilities

  • Stay current with best practice and advancements in nursing.
  • Ensure proper technique and practice are used according to accepted standards.
  • Supervise other personnel in the room and direct or assist as necessary.
  • Ensure care of patient through proper identification, checking of chart and reporting changes in condition.
  • Ascertain that consent form is accurate and properly signed prior to procedure.
  • Ensure proper body alignment throughout procedure.
  • Have all supplies and equipment in room with equipment checks completed before procedure to ensure it is in working condition.
  • Care for specimens and cultures according to policy and procedure.
  • Complete documentation and charges.
  • Accompany patient to patient care unit and report to nurse on patient procedure and special happenings.
  • Interview patient prior to procedure to facilitate knowledge of patient, assess condition and needs.
  • Prepare supplies and organize materials with respect to special needs of patient and procedure.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and ability to meet the needs of and provide care of these patients.
  • Perform duties as assigned by surgical services leadership.
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and concerns.
