About The Position

The Oncology Registered Nurse provides care for Oncology and Hematology patients receiving therapy for oncologic and hematologic problems. The position focuses on patient assessment and education, coordination of care, administration of therapy, symptom management, and supportive care. The nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a complex patient population. The role includes administering chemotherapy and other medications and infusions, providing telephone and direct patient care, and capturing charges and billing for services rendered. The nurse also provides patient and family education, psychosocial support, and emotional support. As part of a multidisciplinary care team, the nurse communicates and collaborates with co-workers, staff, and collaborating institutions and agencies. The role requires clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative practice, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of clinical research principles and practices.

Requirements

• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) licensure through the Board of Registration in Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, including courses offered through South Shore Health.
• Clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative practice, and excellent communication skills.
• Understanding of the principles and practices of clinical research.
