About The Position

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes. This posting is for interested candidates for the Main Hospital Neuroscience and Acute Care Units. The units include 8W Neuro Acute Care, 9W Neurology/Neuroscience, and 9E Neuroscience Intermediate Care. These units care for a variety of adult and geriatric patients with neurological conditions including neurosurgical patients, stroke patients, epilepsy monitoring, and general neurology patients. Nurses on these units manage complex medical equipment and high-acuity patients. Requirements

  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing (Continuous).

  • Ability to work indoors (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform gross motor activities with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous).

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Responsibilities

  • Assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process.
  • Interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Manages arterial lines, external ventricular drains measuring ICPs, lumbar drains, and titration of high alert drips (9E Neuroscience Intermediate Care).
  • Cares for patients with ischemic strokes and hemorrhagic strokes, tumor resections, spine/neurosurgeries, neuro endovascular interventions and epilepsy (9E Neuroscience Intermediate Care).
  • Supports Comprehensive Spine Center and Comprehensive Epilepsy Center programs and accreditation.
  • Cares for overflow of neurosurgical patients and spine surgeries.
  • Supports the Comprehensive Spine Center program.
  • Cares for overflow of Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, and neuromuscular diseases.
