About The Position

The PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) in Main Hospital is a 20-bed unit operating 24/7/365, providing care for patients of all ages and disease processes. The unit handles surgeries including but not limited to Ortho, Transplant, Neuro, Spine, ENT, GYN, Trauma, and Urology, among other specialties. Care is provided for both ambulatory surgery patients and inpatients. The unit also accommodates ICU patients, ICU crash patients, and med-surg patients awaiting beds post-surgery. While these units often require nurses with 2 years of critical care or Level 1 ED experience, they are willing to train enthusiastic and motivated med-surg and new graduate nurses. BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required before the end of orientation. The application deadline for this unit is August 5, 2026. This role involves assisting at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families, utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process. The Registered Nurse I will interact with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS required before end of orientation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated med-surg and new graduate nurses.
  • 2 years of critical care or level 1 ED experience (often required, but willing to train others).
