Work at University Hospital in Madison, WI on a 15-bed step-down unit that services vascular, cardiac surgery, and cardiology adult patient populations. This unit provides intermediate and general levels of care with common interventions including chest tubes, feeding tubes, PCAs, insulin drips, vasoactive drips, heparin drips, and multiple drains. Nurses will care for patients having abdominal and thoracic aneurysm repairs (both open and endovascular), carotid endarterectomies, limb saving lytic therapies, lower extremity bypasses and amputations. The role involves participating in shared governance through a unit-based council to support quality improvement initiatives and lead practice change. The environment is supportive, patient-and-family focused, with daily care team visits. Evidence-based practice is utilized, and the team encourages mutual success in the progressive care setting.
