About The Position

We have a new opening for a Registered Nurse - Family Health at Nellis AFB in North Las Vegas, NV. This role involves utilizing the nursing process for patient care, including assessing adult and geriatric patients, managing medical conditions, and providing health promotions. The nurse will collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care, ensure compliance with standards, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Responsibilities include performing physical exams, administering medications, wound care, directing and supervising other healthcare personnel, and operating specialized medical equipment. The position also involves documentation, research, training new staff, participating in committees, and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelors degree in Nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • A minimum of 2-years of post-grad outpatient experience as a registered nurse.
  • Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse from any state.
  • Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS and ACLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of preventive health schedules, disease management and population health principles, and education methods.
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use to include knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient’s condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
  • Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical judgments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family, and for the organization.
  • Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for patient/family interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly preferred working knowledge of the military health care system including TRICARE health benefits or a working knowledge of the principles of fee-for-services, preferred provider network and managed care/HMO organizations is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for professional practice.
  • Assesses patients, including the ability to assess/evaluate telephonically.
  • Collaborates with a wide array of healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility.
  • Communicates and collaborates with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
  • Provides health promotions, counseling, and education.
  • Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and quickly reacts in emergency situations.
  • Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established clinic protocols.
  • Telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow-up care.
  • Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
  • Performs accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts.
  • Arranges for procedures and performs telephone follow-up, as needed.
  • Administers medications, performs wound care, and numerous other personalized patient care activities.
  • Directs and supervises care provided by other healthcare personnel.
  • Makes patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
  • Makes referral appointments and arranges specialty care as needed.
  • Conducts research in support of improved practice and patient care.
  • Utilizes the nursing process in an effective and time sensitive manner IAW standard of care.
  • Performs nursing services identified in the scope of practice.
  • Orients/trains new staff as required by government supervisor.
  • Participates in the peer review process.
  • Skillfully sets up, operates, and monitors specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic specific equipment.
  • Ensures medication/supplies are available and maintained.
  • Performs/assists with procedures such as bladder catheterizations, pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, nebulizer treatments, EKGs, phlebotomy, and other clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Provides clinical oversight of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic treatments.
  • Ensures proper documentation and coding of procedures and completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines.
  • Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed.
  • Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement.
  • Participates in customer service initiatives, quality projects, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
  • Participates in peer review processes as directed.
